Fire prevention and protection
Fire Prevention Guidelines –
• Fire: Chemical reaction initiated by presence of heat energy in which a substance combine with oxygen in the air & the process is accompanied by emission of energy in the form of heat, light & sound. Element essential for combustion before a fire can occur are:
• A combustible substance –
• 1. Fuel (Solid, Liquid & Gas),
• 2.
• 1. Fuel (Solid, Liquid & Gas),
• 2. Oxygen,
• 3. Source of heat - spark, flame etc.
• Absence of any of the three will result in extinguishing of the fire.
Classification of Fire : - ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’ and ‘D’.
• Class - A :- Fire in ordinary combustible material such as wood, paper, textiles, jute, hut etc.
• Class - B:- Fire in inflammables liquids such as Oil, Organic Solvent, Petroleum Products, varnish, paints etc.
Class‘D:- Fire involving burning combustible metals powder such as Magnesium, Aluminum, Zinc, Alkali metals like Sodium and Potassium etc.
